In order to meet broader global and long-term sustainability targets, carbon offsetting and investing in SAF will not be enough. The aviation industry will need truly innovative, new technologies. Over the last decades the sector has certainly already proven to be at the forefront of new technology development. Airplanes and their engines have been redesigned to become quieter, lighter, and more efficient. Also, artificial intelligence, robotization and electrification have reshaped the industry. But more can and needs to be done.
To accelerate research and technology development, Flyetic is contributing to 4AIR's Aviation Climate Fund (ACF). The ACF is unique in its ambition to bring all stakeholders within aviation together to collaborate on new technologies and solutions for reduction of aviation emissions. The ACF will mobilize funds for research and development focused to aviation. Some of the technologies that the fund supports today are flight optimization algorithms, drag and winglets reduction, electronic Ground Power Units, electric aviation batteries, hydro fuels and solar energie at airports. One of ACF’s main partners is the Universities associated with the Aviation Sustainability Center (ASCENT), which is a global collaboration of some of the dominant universities and associations that are working on sustainability in aviation.
