Who could (or would want to) imagine a world without aviation?
Perish the thought!
Flying to far-flung locations for work, for pleasure, or to visit loved ones has become commonplace. We need to fly! Flying enlarges our horizons, our understanding of and affection for other peoples and cultures, and it makes us citizens of the world rather than isolated, fearful tribal nations.
But even as commercial aviation has connected people across continents and delivered enormous economic and social benefits to us, it has delivered something alarming, too: Flights presently deliver unsustainable environmental costs.
Aviation’s harmful emissions are a significant and growing contributor to air pollution and climate change. Currently, aviation activity accounts for nearly 2% of all worldwide carbon dioxide (CO₂) emissions. And if nothing is done immediately to mitigate the damage that aviation inflicts on Earth’s inhabitants (animal and human), given the projected growth in aviation, the percentage could easily triple to around 6% by in just the next 30 years.
We at FlyEtic won’t let that happen.
Our Planet is too precious!
So, do we have to stop flying? No. The fact is: We CAN’T stop flying. Aviation has become an indispensable contributor to global prosperity. There would be devastating consequences if we reduce the air transportation of people and goods whilst the global population continues to rise.
We’re committed fully to limiting the negative impact that flying has on climate.
The commercial aviation industry has made commitments to sustainability and taken steps to reduce its negative effects on our ecosystem. But more will be required to meet the industry global climate goals that have been set for 2050.
The private aviation sector has the chance right now to assume a leading role in setting new long-term standards for aviation sustainability.
There is still time … but we need to act NOW!
Today's initiatives for emission reduction focus on carbon offsetting, which will help in the short run. It’s undoubtedly a good first step. But to reach a true net zero Impact, the aviation industry needs to step up its game.
SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuels) have been identified as the most promising option for flying cleaner sooner. By flying with SAF’s, we can reduce aviation’s carbon footprint up to 80% over its full lifecycle.
In the area of operations and infrastructure, additional efficiency gains will be required.
But, in the long run, the industry will have to come up with new technologies (electric engines, cleaner fuels, etc.) to reach the net zero impact goal. Aviation already has a sizable innovation track record, but more can and must be done.
Our Plan for the Planet program far exceeds what is commonly seen in the aviation industry.
Offsetting emissions is the absolute minimum that we require. In addition, for every flight we buy our share in Sustainable Aviation Fuel and make sure the flight operations happen in the most sustainable way.
We’re always investing in innovative and promising new technologies to help achieve zero impact flying in the coming years!
In our “Plan for the Planet” we offer the two following options:
1. Beyond Neutral: Although the industry is presently focusing on carbon offsetting, in FlyEtic’s Beyond Neutral program, you commit to offsetting your flights' harmful emissions. But there are several non-CO2 emissions which account for up to ⅔ of the total negative impact of flying, too, so these also need to be addressed. So, in our Beyond Neutral program, you offset three times the calculated CO2 emission of your specific flight. And you invest in Sustainable Aviation Fuels through our SAF book and claim process. The Beyond Neutral option alone will immediately reduce your carbon footprint an additional 5%!
2. Climate Champion: But you can opt in to build and support a sustainable aviation future even more. As a Climate Champion, you will also make contributions to Research & Development funds for future aviation technologies and emission reductions. With your support, new technologies (including but not limited to electronic GPUs, solar power at the gate, optimization algorithms, new battery technologies, and cleaner fuels) can be further developed.
*4AIR is the first and only sustainability solutions program dedicated to private aviation. Its industry-first framework seeks to address all types of climate impacts and provides a simplified, verifiable path for private aviation industry participants to achieve meaningful aircraft emissions counteraction and reduction.
Together,
we CAN and we WILL change the aviation world for the better in your lifetime.
Welcome aboard!
